Newark Renters' Rights is a personal project run by me, Christene Carr. I take privacy seriously, partly because I'm a tenant too, and partly because nobody should need a law degree to figure out who's collecting their data.

This page explains, in plain English, what the site collects, why, and what you can do about it.

Who runs the site

Newark Renters' Rights is owned, funded, and operated by me — Christene Carr — as an individual. There's no parent company, no third-party data partner, and no marketing operation behind the scenes.

What the site collects

I do not directly collect personal information from you. However, the platforms and tools the site is built on collect a small amount of standard data:

  • Website analytics (via Squarespace, the platform that hosts the site): things like your IP address, browser type, operating system, the pages you visit, and the date/time of your visit. This is standard web log data used to understand how the site is being used and to keep it secure.

  • Cookies: the site uses cookies from Squarespace to operate normally. Some are required; some are optional and used only for analytics.

  • Donations (via Buy Me a Coffee): if you choose to donate, you interact directly with Buy Me a Coffee. Their platform collects whatever's needed to process the payment. I never see your full credit card or bank details. See Buy Me a Coffee's privacy policy for full details.

  • Share buttons (via AddToAny): if you click a share icon, AddToAny's script loads to enable the share. AddToAny collects standard interaction data and does not require login.

  • Email correspondence: if you email me at hello@newarkrentersrights.com, I keep that email so I can reply. I don't add you to any list.

What I don't do

  • I don't sell your data.

  • I don't share your data with marketers or advertisers.

  • I don't run ads on this site.

  • I don't have a mailing list. If I ever add one, I'll update this page and require explicit opt-in.

Your choices

  • Block or delete cookies in your browser settings. Most parts of the site work fine without them.

  • Browse in private/incognito mode to limit local storage.

  • Use a VPN to obscure your IP address.

Children

The site is intended for adult tenants. I don't knowingly collect data from anyone under 13. If you're a parent or guardian and believe a child has provided information through the site, email me and I'll delete it.

Visitors outside the U.S.

If you're visiting from the European Union (GDPR), California (CCPA), or another jurisdiction with stronger privacy laws, those rights apply to you. You can request a copy of any personal data I hold (which is minimal) or ask me to delete it.

Changes to this policy

If anything changes, I'll update this page and the "Last updated" date at the top.
