Terms of Use

Last updated: May 15, 2026

Welcome to Newark Renters' Rights. By using this site, you agree to these terms. They're plain English but still legally meaningful, so please read them.

1. This is not legal advice

Everything on this site — toolkits, FAQs, blog posts, sample letters, links — is for educational purposes only. It is not legal advice, and using this site does not create an attorney-client relationship.

I am not a lawyer. The site is a personal project, not a law firm. Laws change, and information here may be out of date by the time you read it. If your situation is serious, please consult a licensed attorney or the free legal services listed on the Resources page.

2. No warranty, no guarantee

I work hard to keep the information accurate, current, and useful — but I cannot guarantee it is. The site is provided "as is," without warranties of any kind, express or implied.

3. Limitation of liability

To the maximum extent allowed by law, I am not liable for any loss or damage arising from your use of the site, including reliance on information here, broken links, or actions taken based on the site's content.

4. Acceptable use

Use the site for personal, non-commercial purposes. Don't scrape, hack, overload, mass-copy, or otherwise interfere with the site's operation.

5. Sharing and fair use

You're encouraged to share toolkits, FAQs, and resources with neighbors, tenants, and anyone who needs them. You can link to the site freely. You can print and distribute toolkits non-commercially with attribution to newarkrentersrights.org. If you want to use content in a publication, training program, or for any commercial purpose, email me first.

6. Third-party links

The site links to government agencies, courts, legal services, and other resources. I have no control over those websites and am not responsible for their content, privacy practices, or what happens after you click through.

7. Donations

Donations made through Buy Me a Coffee are voluntary contributions to the operation of this site. Newark Renters' Rights is not a registered 501(c)(3) nonprofit, so donations are not tax-deductible. Donations are non-refundable except as required by the payment processor. Funds go to site costs — hosting, domain, design tools, the occasional outreach effort, actual coffee ( and likely cocktails and therapy because life is hard.)

8. Changes to these terms

I may update these terms at any time. If I make a material change, I'll update the "Last updated" date. Continued use of the site after an update counts as acceptance.

9. Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of the State of New Jersey, without regard to its conflict of laws principles. Any disputes will be resolved in the state or federal courts located in Essex County, New Jersey.

10. Contact
